Review:
I understand how people see this film in the context of Hurricane Katrina. But even as a former resident of the Gulf Coast, who sat out Alicia, Claudette Allen, Rita and Ike, I see this picture in much, much larger context. It goes beyond stereotype and archetype - people arent tub poor drunks at the mercy of the environment, they are people in the world including they reside. Hush Puppy not drunken father, she has a father, with many of the weaknesses and strengths of the immortal epic heroes - anger, pride, sincere love and affection . Hush Puppy itself is not just a little girl, she is The Child - supplier of magic that is real, closely linked to the world of her imaginative connection with All Things. The outside world is a place of objects and machines, paperwork and regulations - and is never called, you see, because it would decrease. Everything in this film is within the realm of archetype, if you see him with that in mind, take on cosmic significance. Many messages Beautifully shot, beautifully acted - its going to take a few days for the whole thing quite sink in. Outstanding!
