Review:
My favorite film of all time. It was a bad job Coppola sees documentary Heart of Darkness it even more compelling. Coppola at this point was the king of Hollywood after Godfather and GodfatherII and developed ego needed even dare try to make a film like Apocalypse. Through sheer arrogance went to the Philippines with a partial manuscript and thought he knew what he would do when he got there. Like Captain Willard thought he would know what to do when he came Colonel Kurtz mixture. And like Willard did not know what he will do when he got there. It is a masterpiece of American film, beautifully photographed and the river is so perfect metaphor and backdrop for the story. What I like most about the Apocalypse is that it does not provide any answers or conclusions. Because of this open-endedness, upsets some viewers who like their movies are much more obvious. This film defies categorization. Some call it a war film, it is not at all, in fact it's more personal study of man. Best pic platoon in Vietnam in my opinion, and if the viewer is looking retelling of the Vietnam War, the first response. Coppola should be commended for his views on the war bureaucracy, which translates quite effectively meet Gen.Corman and Lucas (Harrison Ford) and Playmate Review.
