Review:
From my thoughts on the film in my special coverage of Toronto. In any PriceIranian-American director Ramin Bahrani fascinated with slices of American life that most Hollywood movies today ignore. In his first three attempts, shot on a shoe-string budget in the neo-realist style familiar to fans of Middle Eastern films of the last decade or so, we dive into the everyday minutiae of his characters. It was the Eastern immigrants in New York City who run their souvenir shop stand in the Man Basket Push (2006), Latino resourceful street orphan who works in a number of scrap metal behind the old Shea Stadium in Queens, Chop Shop (2007), and African taxi driver in Goodbye Solo (2008). any cost sharing may Bahrani neorealism for classic American style familiar to a bygone era of Hollywood that produced Breaking Away (1979) and Silkwood (1983), while keeping intact their curiosity to everyday American life. Located in Iowa today with his hand on the pulse of our hard economic situation, we follow an enterprising farmer Henry Whipple (Dennis Quaid, in what may be his best performance), a tragic figure who now says Willy Loman in American films, which were occupied in For some time, Kevin Spacey, Lester Burnham in American Beauty (1999). Whipple, who likes to remind us, is the largest seller of seeds for seven counties in Iowa, trailing only Jim Johnson (Clancy Brown). His eldest son, Grant, whom he idealizes, rises in the Andes while his party-boy's youngest son Dean (Zac Efron) car racing, resulting in the father and mother (a powerful, understated Kim Dickens) to run the family business. The rich and unique history, this film is not so much about the construction of winning than this inventory study of modern American values. It's amazing how Bahrani see the glory of America and all of its problems with the level gaze. It could not be more targeted sequence in American movies this year than the one that takes place here on the highway, where all the main characters are put together to sing the national anthem. During his raw physical attractiveness is a fundamental question about the price paid in the shower to win at all costs at the expense of his neighbor. It's a great American film.
